CUPPING THERAPY

The primary object of cupping therapy is to move blood and Qi and remove stagnation of any kind, from the body. There are 10 different methods of cupping technique that can be used to achieve this. When cupping is performed for the first time there will be slight bruising or a ring or a mark left from the edge of the cup at the treatment site.

What you can expect to experience is a warm pulling, stretching sensation on the skin but not any excessive pain.

Cupping has been used by various populations for many thousands of years. There is evidence of the Egyptians using it in 1550BC as a systematic form of treatment. It has been used by the Native Americans, Africans, Romans, French, just about everyone. Even Galen and Hippocrates were great advocates of cupping therapy.

Cups can be made from glass, plastic, rubber, bamboo and ceramic. In the ancient times cups were made from cow horns. By lighting a fire under the cup the air is expelled and a negative pressure is created, causing a vacuum or suction, not much has changed in the way the suction is created, although cups can be attached with the use of a small hand vacuum pump for cups with valves fitted or cups with squeeze tops.

Although cupping therapy is most commonly associated with traditional Chinese, Japanese and Thai medicines, there are many other modalities that cupping compliments, massage, Chiropractic, Osteopathy, Kinesiology, Shiatsu, Reflexology, and Physiotherapy.
